This workshop provides an accelerated journey for developers who already have basic familiarity with Temporal. Using content curated from our training, with particular emphasis on our Exploring Durable Execution and Interacting with Workflows courses, you’ll build on the fundamentals. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of Durable Execution, discover how Temporal delivers crash-proof execution, and learn how this relates to best practices for application developers.

Through a series of hands-on exercises, you’ll use Temporal Workflows and Activities to manage service calls, observe how your application overcomes common failure scenarios, and overcome failures in external systems by customizing Retry Policies. You will integrate your Temporal application with other systems by implementing Signals that enable a Workflow to react to external events and Queries that allow other applications to access the Workflow’s internal state.

This workshop expects no prior knowledge of Temporal and is appropriate for any experienced level who wants to build a Temporal application. If you’re new to these concepts and want to get a head start, you complete this tutorial prior to the Workshop. This year’s hackathon is for experienced Temporal users to build new and exciting projects for the code exchange. Attendees will form teams, collaborate, and showcase their creations, fostering community and friendships while learning and growing as engineers. The event culminates in demos where attendees will deploy each other’s projects from the code exchange, with the demonstrator and the original team teaming up to present, and then these projects are celebrated by fellow conference-goers on the main event stage.

This full-day workshop consists of two popular topics in Temporal, building AI agents and Versioning of Workflows. The Workshops are staggered, which means the same content is being covered in both tracks 3 & 4, just at different times.

Building Durable AI Applications with Temporal - Python
In this workshop, you’ll build production-ready GenAI applications with Temporal’s Durable Execution platform. Through instructor-led training, live demos, and hands-on Python exercises, participants will explore the essential components of GenAI applications and gain practical experience applying Temporal to deliver fault tolerance, resilience, and reliability at scale. The workshop covers building durable AI agents and designing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers with Temporal. New to Temporal or AI? No worries — we’ll teach you everything you need to know in the workshop.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll will be able to:

• Understand the essential components of modern GenAI applications.
• Apply Temporal to build fault-tolerant, production-ready systems.

Evolving Temporal Applications in Production - Python
In this workshop, you’ll evolve your Temporal applications in production through various versioning strategies. Through instructor-led training, live-demos, and hands-on exercises, participants will explore multiple approaches to safely modifying Temporal Workflows and learn how to leverage Temporal’s Worker Versioning system to manage deployments at scale. The workshop covers versioning strategy selection, implementation patterns, Worker configuration, routing control, and safe deployment practices including drainage and emergency remediation techniques.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Apply appropriate versioning strategies to safely modify Workflows in production.
• Implement versioned Workflows and verify correct implementation through monitoring and testing Workflow Execution History.
• Configure Workers to participate in Worker Versioning and evaluate tradeoffs when choosing versioning behavior.
• Use Temporal’s routing system to control which Workflows run on specific Worker versions.
• Execute safe deployment practices including the drainage process for sunsetting old versions and emergency remediation techniques for critical issues.
