Rainbow Deployments in The Cloud
The Booking team at Alaska Airlines is a feature-building machine whose workflows are littered with patches. We present a deep dive of our migration from rolling deployments on K8s to rainbow deployments on Azure Container Apps. We reflect on mistakes and lessons learned, such as a reduction in workflow patches along with an increased complexity in our deployment code and error handling process.
Satnam is a Senior Software Engineer at Alaska Airlines, where he works on his favorite kind of problem – the infrastructure behind the Booking Engine Hub, Alaska's core booking platform. With over a decade of experience building distributed systems in C# and Azure, he helped architect the team's coordinated deployment strategy built on Azure Container Apps and Temporal Worker Versioning.
